Bangkok Here We Come!!!

And so the Asian Adventure begins!!!

We spent the day after arriving home from Mexico packing our things and eating our favorite foods that we won't be able to find in Southeast Asia. We had Freebirds for dinner on Monday night, and for lunch today Julian had pizza (of course) and Mattie had Whataburger! Yum! It was all good and we are now ready to fully embrace our adventure, food and all.

We are currently sitting on Emirates Flight No. EK 212 somewhere between Houston and Dubai, where we have a 4 hour lay over. Emirates is by far the best airline that we have ever flown on! They have about a gazillion movies to watch (and they are even new releases) and the food is great. We know it would make Julian's mom very happy to know that our free wine came from the Languedoc!

We were surprised to wake up from our in flight naps to see ourselves flying directly over Iraq.
Baghdad is currently directly to our right and we are about to enter Iranian airspace. Only about another hour and we will be landing in Dubai!

Alright, so I must say, I thought that our second flight, from Dubai to Bangkok, would be just as awesome as our flight from Houston to Dubai... WRONG. It wasn't the airlines fault, but more of the 500 lb ++ man sitting to my right. Not only was he taking up half my seat, but he hadn't showered in about a month!

It was super awesome. Nonetheless, I survived and we landed in Bangkok at about 7:30am Thursday morning local time.

Once we made it through Immigration, it was smooth sailing. The guys at customs didn't even blink an eye as we walked through. Then we were expecting to be bombarded by people trying to rip us off but nobody approached us, I guess we looked like we knew what we were doing! We got a cab and drove for 45 minutes to the Peninsula Hotel. Again, we were surprised by the quality of the roads and the city in general.

Even though we were exhausted, we decided it would be good to go out and see some of the city. Since we forgot our adaptor to allow us to upload photos to the iPad, we first went to the shopping mall in search of a new one. We finally found one at a super sketchy stall in the massive, 6 story "mall" and so we are relieved to see that it works. Yay!

We then went to lunch at a little restaurant not far from the mall. Julian ordered "Spicy Shrimp Soup" or something like that. When he took his first bite, he looked like he was about to blow steam out of his ears! Apparently "spicy" is not a term to be taken lightly here in Thailand.
