Black Moon Party

While we weren't able to time our trip to Ko Pha Ngan around the famous full moon party, we did make it for the Black Moon Party, where there is no moon. There is pretty much a party every night to celebrate whatever stage the moon happens to be in at the time.

We stayed on the "Sunset" beach just opposite the "Sunrise" beach where the parties are held. Our beach was actually pretty nice and extremely low key.

The walk to town consisted of a ten minute stroll along the beach. As you enter, the first thing you notice is the apparent frat party that stopped by and threw up all over the place. Everything sold in the stores is in 80's style and neon, from the body paint to the head bands.

That night, we, of course, indulged in the festivities. Along with the copious amount of alcohol going around there are also fire dancers and fire games! Sounds super safe, right? We didn't bring the camera in fear of it being lost/stolen/broken, so you will just have to take our word for it! All of the bars had their own fire dancers that rivaled the ones at our wedding, so that was pretty cool to watch all night long. They also had many games that involved fire. The first game's objective was to light a torch about ten feet away and ten feet tall by blowing fire at it. The contestants took a gulp of kerosene into their mouths and held a torch and then blew it out. It was cool to watch, if not a little dangerous. The prize was a free bucket... The other games we saw were fire limbo and fire jump rope, as well as everyones fave, drunken arm wrestling!

Here is the famous beach in the morning, while most people are still sleeping.

The next day, we slept in and relaxed on the beach outside of our bungalow.

In the morning we jumped on another boat and took off to Ko Samui.
